Bharati
is an Indian poet, freedom fighter, social reformer and journalist who belongs
to Tamil Nadu. He lost his mother at the age of 5 after which his full
dedication turned towards poetry. In Tamil court he made many legends
speechless by his extraordinary talents and at this point he was been
represented as “BHARATI”, did many debuts with his teachers he completed his 5th
level graduation on 1894-1897 in Hindu college.
In
1897, He married chellama at the age of 14, after a year his father passed away
worries of him leads to depression so
his aunty kuppamal took him to kassi, till 1902 he studied at alahabad
kalashabai learned languages like Hindi and Sanskrit. In spite of the fact that
growing mustache is against his caste he wanted to have one to recognize himself
as a Anti-Caste fighter. After that he returned to his native became very close
to the king of Ettaiyapuram , left uninterested job then shifted to Madurai.
Published
his first song "THANIMAI ERAKAM" in "VIVEGABANU" newspaper,
worked as a Tamil senior teacher at "SEDHUPATHI HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL"
in Madurai from august to November of 1904,then placed as assistant script writer in
"SUDHESIMETHRAN" newspaper, by the reference of SUDHESIMETHRAN writer
G.Subbaiah ,after that he became the writer for the magazine "CHAKRAVARTHINI".
In 1908, Bharati's first poem book
"SUDHESA GEETHANGAL" was published, Government keenly was noting the
activities of "INDIA" magazine and its publishers and Finally issued
a warrant for Bharati, from which he managed to escape to Pondicherry with the
help of his friend “KUVALAI KANNAN”. He published many articles through the
magazine India from 1908-1910 against the French Government.
In
1909, Bharati's second poem book "JENMA BOOMI" was published. In
1910,"VIJAYA (daily newspaper)" , "SURYOTHAYAM (weekly
newspaper)" , "BALA BHARATHA (English weekly newspaper) are stopped
their publications. In April 1910, "ARAVINDER" reached Pondicherry
and met Bharati. They did some research in ancient books.
In
November 1910, "MADHA MANI VASAGAM (includes "suyasaridhai"
)". published where v.o.c also went there, In 1912 is the turning point in Bharati's life.
He worked hard wrote many poems
like "PANJALI SABHATHAM","KANNAN PAATU" and "KUYIL
PAATU". He also translated "GEETA".
In
1917,"SU.NELLAIAPPAR" published Bharati's "KANNAN PAATU" in Chennai.
Bharati
is considered as one of the pioneers of modern Tamil literature. Bharati used
simple words and rhythms, unlike his previous century works in Tamil, which had
complex vocabulary. He also employed novel ideas and techniques in his
devotional poems. He used a metre called Nondi Chindu in most of his works,
which was earlier used by Gopalakrisnha Bharathiar. Bharati's poetry expressed
a progressive, reformist ideal. His imagery and the vigour of his verse were a
forerunner to modern Tamil poetry in different aspects. He was the forerunner
of a forceful kind of poetry that combined classical and contemporary elements.
He
was caught by police in cadalour and he has was remanded for 34 days .after his
release he directly went to "KADAYAM" to meet his wife. 1918-1920 he
stayed there and left to Thiruvanandhapuram , Ettayapuram , Karaikudi and
Kanadukathan. In 1919 Bharati arrived to Chennai to meet GANDHIJI at RAJAJI's
HOUSE. In 1920, he started as assistant script writer in
"SUDHESIMETHRAN" In July-August 1921, he was knocked down by an
elephant which belongs to Triplicane temple. He was helped by KUVALAI KANNAN
but Still he got sick due to shock. September 1921 he recovered from shock,but
he was affected by stomach problem. 11th September he did't take his
medicines,next day 12th September early in the morning around 1:30A.M he passed
away. the legend "MUNDASU KAVIGAR" left this world at the age of 39.
But still he remains in peoples heart and there is no replacement for him as
the power of his words and his love towards his language is unique and uncomparable.
